The new Sutton Police facility is centrally located in the community of Sutton, at the intersection of Central Turnpike and Putnam Hill Road. The new building is a composite steel / wood frame, with interior masonry partitions on the lower level. The building is sited on a sloping parcel of land and provides for separate public and police entrances and exits.
The lower level, accessible from the rear of the building includes a secure prisoner processing and detention area, secure evidence processing and storage, secure Interview Rooms, Exercise Room / and male and female locker rooms. The upper level, accessible from the front parking area includes administrative offices, dispatch center, Public Training Room, and records storage areas. Unfinished attic spaces accommodate various mechanical units.
An exterior canopy structure created sheltered parking areas for department vehicles and is equipped for future solar panels.
The project also included town-wide communications infrastructure improvements, simulcast systems and communications tower, integrated via fiber-optic communication lines into the new station. Microwave systems also provided increased radio coverage between remote transmitting / receiving sites.
